Due to the high humidity in the vehicle, not only the view in winter is clouded – it also offers ideal conditions for rust and mold. A dehumidifier should help.
You also know that: just got into the car, the windows are already fitting. But why? This is due to her warm breath, which condenses on the cold window glass due to strong temperature differences. But what if the car windows are already fogged before they climb into the vehicle? Here it is reasonable to assume that there is too much residual moisture in your car. In both cases, a dehumidifier should remedy the situation, but what exactly is that? And how can moisture in the car be avoided or at least reduced? We’ll tell you.
How do you use dehumidifiers in the car?
At a For vehicles, it is a kind of pillow that is filled with a special granulate or leak -proof gel. You place this in the car (for example on the dashboard) to pull the moisture out of the air. This should not only reduce fogged slices and poor smells, but also prevent mold, rust and stick stains. Depending on the manufacturer, the duration of action is between several weeks and up to three months – this always depends on the size of the vehicle interior. It is particularly practical with this form of dehumidifiers that they can not only be used in the car: the Fulfill the same purpose in the caravan or motorhome, in which (closed) garages or inside a boat.
And the best thing is: If the pillow is absorbed and no longer absorbs moisture, it only has to be dried for a few minutes in the microwave (or on the heating) – and is then fully operational again.
This is how they prevent fogged slices
If the window panes fog in your car as soon as you drive off, you should first turn on the fan and target the windshield. In addition, it is helpful to turn the heating up completely so that the flowing air gets warm faster. If, on the other hand, if the windows only faded away during the journey, this can be due to the circulation circuit – here it is advisable to exhibit them and instead the air conditioning (if one is available). It transports the moist air from the vehicle inside directly.
In addition to the dehumidifier for cars described above, you can also use further aids that are supposed to prevent fogged windows: such as a For glass and plastic slices, which, however, must be applied every one to two weeks to work. Alternatively, you can also use a microfiber disc sponge in the vehicle-or a special one . In any case, it is important that you only use clean rags or towels, as dirty slices should faster through the dirt film than clean.
Avoid moisture in the car: This is how it works
So that no moisture collects inside the vehicle and fits in slices as well as mold, you can – according to the ADAC – take some preventive measures:
- On snow -covered or rainy days, they carry a lot of moisture into the car with their shoes, which collects on the floor mats. Therefore, you should always make sure to take wet mats out of the vehicle and always dry well.
- Old seals (for example on doors, windows and rear flaps) are porous over time, so that moisture can collect and spread mold here. For this reason, you should check regularly whether your car is still tight.
- As already mentioned, it is important to ventilate the vehicle properly – but the trick with the air conditioning and the heating only works at outside temperatures that are above five degrees. And if there is not too much moisture in the car yet.
- Always make sure that the rainwater drain of the heating is free. If this is clogged by old leaves (or dirt), which is happy to collect between the bonnet and windshield, moisture builds inside the vehicle.
- According to the ADAC, even a poorly ventilated garage can be to blame for moisture on and in the car. The drier the indoor climate, the better the vehicle dries in it.
- Last but not least, clogged drain hoses can favor moisture. If your car has a sunroof, you should regularly test whether water flows down properly. If this is not the case, the hoses may have to be repaired.
