The Chinese brand Avatr has presented the Changan Lumin Corn, a microcar with a fully electric drive. The electric car appears with relatively meager equipment – so it should not only fall under the category of city runabouts because of its size.
With the Changan Lumin Corn, a small, all-electric car with an economical design is to be launched on the Chinese market before the end of this year. The two-door, four-seater is based on Changan’s EPA0 platform, which is designed for hatchbacks and city cars.
The city runabout from the car manufacturer Changan New Energy and the Chinese battery manufacturer CATL appears with an overall round shape, round LED lamps and fold-out door handles. In addition, the almost 3.30 meters and 1.70 meters wide Changan Lumin Corn has a trunk volume of 104 liters with the second row of seats folded down. The engine power is relatively weak at 41 hp.
It will initially appear in two versions with small LFP batteries with a capacity of 12.92 kWh or 17.65 kWh and a specified range of 155 kilometers or 210 kilometers. The Stromer only has an AC charging connection, so that quick charging is not possible.
Later, Avatr wants to release another version with a 28 kWh battery, which should give the Changan Lumin Corn a range of 301 kilometers. Later, a variant will come onto the market, which according to the manufacturer will have at least 48 hp.
Electric cars will be on the market later this year
In addition to an Eco mode, the small car also has a Sport mode and a relatively sporty steering wheel. A display is installed behind it, which shows the driver information such as speed, battery charge, range and energy consumption. In addition, the electric car has a 10.25-inch touchscreen, including a navigation function.
The market launch of the Changan Lumin Corn is planned for the second half of 2022 in China. There is no information about the price so far. What is known, however, is that the small car only has a guarantee of three years or up to a mileage of 120,000 kilometers – most car manufacturers, on the other hand, grant a battery guarantee of eight years and 160,000 kilometers. The microcar aims to compete with its peers, the Wuling Mini EV and the Chery QQ Ice Cream.
