Relaunch : Off to the second row

The Bentley Bentayga is one of the most luxurious crossovers on the market. It really only lacked one thing: more comfort in the rear. But now there is a version with a long wheelbase and deck chairs like on an airplane.

He’s late – very late, because the Bentley Bentayga has been on the market since 2015 and the second generation is slowly approaching. But with Bentley becoming a full electric brand, the next Bentayga generation is likely to be a few years away. The luxury SUV from Crewe, UK, is already selling better than ever and was one of the reasons for the record year 2021. But more and more ambitious competitors have rolled onto the road in recent years and are putting the Bentayga under pressure. Not only the premium competition has followed up with models like the Mercedes-Maybach GLS or a BMW X7, but also the Rolls-Royce Cullinan or the posh versions from the USA like the Lincoln Navigator or Cadillac Escalade tap the Bentley SUV customers, because they sometimes offer significantly more space in the leather-covered luxury fund.

This is now countered by the 5.32 meter long Bentley Bentayga, because the technically closely related brother of the Audi Q8 and Porsche Cayenne is available from the fourth quarter on request with a long wheelbase, which brings significantly more luxury into the second row. A wheelbase that has been extended by 18 centimeters only benefits the rear. Customers can now decide whether to stick with the standard wheelbase variant or treat themselves to the Bentley Bentayga LWB, which is available as a four or 4+1 seater. The four-seater variant in particular is said to offer a previously unimagined level of comfort in the rear. In relax mode, the air-conditioned leather armchairs tilt backwards by up to 40 degrees and can be heated or cooled as desired, while also pampering the rear occupants with a massage.

“The Bentayga Extended Wheelbase is our first vehicle dedicated to the well-being of its occupants. Every Bentley gets you where you’re going feeling more relaxed than when you started your journey,” says Bentley CEO Adrian Hallmark, “but with the Extended Wheelbase, we’ve been able to take it a step further by incorporating the world’s first wellness technologies into our unrivalled have integrated interior design. These advances, combined with the incredible skills of the craftsmen at our carbon neutral Crewe factory, make the Bentayga Extended Wheelbase the ultimate luxury SUV that you can drive or be driven in.” At launch, the XL Bentayga is available alone as a 550hp V8 to get; however, the Bentayga Speed and Plug-in Hybrid versions should also be created. In terms of driving dynamics, the increase in length is to be compensated for by a steering rear axle. In addition, the turning circle is reduced to 11.8 meters. No wonder that those responsible for Bentley are assuming a sales share of around 45 percent.
