As one of the last automakers, Morgan is now also moving into the area. The British, who like hardly any other manufacturer for classic roadsters with retro charm, are now bringing a joker for astray with the small series of the Morgan Plus Four CX-T.

The idea with a Morgan that does not show its skills off the beaten track, because even before the First World War, the models of the charismatic British small series manufacturer were repeatedly used in tough trail rides and races across the country, where mud, Water crossings and mountain slopes were part of the program. The idea has now been implemented on the current CX platform with the new Morgan Plus Four CX-T. Help for the Morgan off-roader came from Rally Raid UK, which has made a name for itself for years with the development and implementation of off-roaders for the Dakar Rally.

In contrast to the normal Morgan roadsters, the Plus Four CX-T received extensive body reinforcements in addition to a tubular space frame, a rustic spring-damper combination and a multi-part underride guard to protect the vehicle against damage from stones and rocks. A ground clearance of 23 centimeters ensures that the two-seater crawls over most objects that get in its way. In this way, the Morgan off-roader can get to places that have never been reached with a model from the British manufacturer. If you are interested in the unusual joker, you have to be quick, because Morgan will only be producing a small series of eight vehicles of the Plus Four CX-T at a price of 170,000 British pounds by the end of the year. The vehicles themselves are manufactured according to customer requirements at the Malvern / Worcestershire plant and then brought to the Dakar specialists from Rally Raid UK, who equip the eight vehicles with the off-road technology.

In addition to the technology, the Morgan Plus Four CX-T has a completely different character than you know from normal Morgan roadsters thanks to the additional aluminum terrain boxes, the spare wheels in the rear and various brackets. Other leisure and equipment items that the adventurer wants to take with him on his tour in the mountains can also be attached to the protective frame. Inside there are also numerous storage and fastening options for cameras, smartphones, GPS navigation or other items that are otherwise difficult to accommodate in a tightly cut Morgan.

“The Morgan design team has been designing modern test vehicles for many years. About 18 months ago our investors and CEO Steve Morris were in the studio and saw how incredible it would be to bring one of these drawings to life,” said Morgan chief designer Jonathan Wells, “The project was unrestrained and arose out of a desire to create an exciting British adventure vehicle. The CX-T, like many Morgan vehicles in recent years, demonstrates the flexibility of Morgan design. For me it is a complete package: historical integrity, legitimate skills, and a brand new, adventurous aesthetic. “

The right propulsion in the field is not only ensured by the rustic underrun protection and the special dampers with the additional ground clearance, but also by a limited-slip differential that is otherwise installed in various BMW models. The three different driving programs regulate the flow of power to the two rear wheels with a locking effect of 0 to 100 percent with an even distribution of the drive forces for maximum propulsion, should it ever get tighter. The engine itself, a two-liter four-cylinder turbo from BMW with 190 kW / 255 hp, was not changed. The normal Morgan Plus Four in the street version, which weighs 1,009 kilograms, accelerates from a standstill to 100 km / h in less than five seconds and reaches a top speed of 240 km / h. There is a choice of a five-speed manual gearbox or an eight-speed automatic from ZF, which reduces the standard consumption to 7.0 liters per 100 kilometers.
