Guide : GHG premium for scooters and pedelecs

The premium on greenhouse gases, which has been available since the beginning of the year, is not only available to drivers of electric cars, but also to pilots of electric two-wheelers. Even those who travel with an electric pedelec or a 45 electric scooter can collect prizes of up to 400 euros.

Summer time means scooter time and it has long since begun. Provided you are traveling with an electric scooter, you can now even save even more thanks to the greenhouse gas quota. More and more fans of fresh air are getting around on scooters in the inner cities, and anyone who decides on a new motorized two-wheeler often opts for an electric scooter. With it you can benefit from the valid GHG premiums just like the users of an electric car.

Not only the drivers of an electric car are slowly registering their vehicles with one of the numerous service providers for GHG premiums, but also those who use an electric scooter. However, the initial requirement was that it was an electric scooter that could travel faster than 45 km/h and had an official license plate number. The particularly popular 50s electric scooters were not actually subsidized. In contrast, there is a full GHG premium for the faster electric scooters that carry an official license plate and not just an insurance plate under the tail light. And what about an electric bicycle that has an insurance number and is approved as a so-called pedelec?

Both drivers of a 50 electric scooter and users of a pedelec now have the option of enjoying the GHG bonus via a back door. The premium can then be applied for, because the corresponding vehicle is subjected to a “voluntary registration”. For a voluntary registration, the registration office needs the identity card, the insurance / EVB number and a valid operating license and, under certain circumstances, an expert opinion. There are no taxes due to the voluntary registration of a moped, so the fees for registration and license plates (50 to 60 euros) and insurance, which costs around 30 to 70 euros per year, remain the same. If the GHG premium is 300 euros or more, the whole thing is definitely worth it.

Approval as a moped up to a speed of 45 km/h can be granted on application in accordance with Section 3 III No. 3 FZV, whereby the issue of a TÜV sticker in accordance with Section 29 StVZO can be waived. In addition to the number plate, a registration certificate I (formerly the vehicle registration document) and a registration sticker will then be issued. The operating permit (CoC paper) becomes the registration certificate II (formerly the vehicle registration document) with the date of the first registration and an official stamp. The driver of an electric scooter traveling faster than 50 km/h and with an official number plate has no further effort. If this electric scooter (models such as Classico Highspeed, Robo-S or Angry Hawk with purchase prices of around 3,500 euros per model) is certified accordingly, there is a GHG bonus of up to 400 euros per year. If you do this for a few years, you can significantly reduce the purchase price. For this purpose, the note “Electric” must be in field P.3 of the registration certificate I. In addition, the driver must either be registered as the owner himself or the GHG premium can be submitted with a power of attorney from the owner.
