Porsche Taycan 4 Cross Turismo: Dynamic basis

Porsche Taycan 4 Cross Turismo: Dynamic basis

The Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo has won many fans in a short time. The e-crossover scores with a neat body and all-wheel drive. The basic version does well accordingly.

Modern automotive colors often have sonorous names. “Frozenberry Metallic” is one of them. Even if you’re not a big fan of the marketing Denglish, you have to admit that the term sounds better than “Frozen Berries Metallic”. Nonetheless, the result is reminiscent of pureed blackberries, which are distributed in yoghurt and should be much more popular with female drivers than with men. Thank goodness we sit in the car and after a while we no longer notice the sometimes pitying looks of passers-by. But it’s the same with this car as it always is in life: You can argue about taste.

But one thing is set in stone with a Porsche: A car from Zuffenhausen has to be agile and very well made. This is also the case with the Taycan. Where others want to transform the electro-mobility business model, sewn to the edge, into a profitable one with hard plastic and rattling glove boxes, Porsche is brimming with piano lacquer and clean workmanship, which can also be expected at a price of 138,843.10 euros. After all, that’s around 45,000 euros more than the Zuffenhausen-based company calls for the basic version.

As usual with Porsche, people like to hold their hand open when it comes to extras. Are you looking for leather upholstery in bi-color, smooth leather, blackberry / slate gray? Makes 4,063.85 euros please. Preparation for rear bike rack? Are then 487.90 euros. Head-up display: 1,594.60 euros. The fact that a safety-relevant detail such as side airbags in the rear is charged at 410.55 euros makes us frown. Oh yes, the Frozenberry Metallic paint job costs 1,094.80 euros.

That brings us to the second point in the Zuffenhausen specifications: dynamism and agility. Ultimately, the Taycan 4 Cross Turismo is a throttled 4S, so all-wheel drive including air suspension and the “large battery” with a capacity of 93.4 kilowatt hours are also set. That helps with comfort. Of course, despite the three air chambers as part of the chassis, a 2.3 ton automobile is not a magic carpet, especially if it has the gold shimmering coat of arms on the bonnet. So the Taycan 4 Cross Turismo is also sporty and tight. The electric crossover pays back this sporty compromise in every curve. The 20 millimeters more ground clearance compared to the sedan in no way affect the agility.

More like the performance. With the Porsche Taycan 4 Cross Turismo, this is a maximum of 280 kW / 380 PS (in launch mode it is even up to 350 kW / 476 PS. Quite decent, but compared to a Taycan Turbo S with 460 kW / 625 PS or 560 kW / 761 PS that sounds a bit poor. The first reassurance comes when you look at the data sheet: From a standstill, the Porsche Taycan 4 Cross Turismo reaches 100 km / h after 5.1 seconds and is at least 220 km / h fast Well, in this category the Turbo S clearly leaves its weaker brother behind. But if you take everyday traffic as a benchmark, this Porsche is also the pike in the carp pond. Thanks to the two-speed gearbox on the rear axle, the Taycan 4 Cross Turismo also keeps up in the demanding speed window 80 and 120 km / h are not exhausted.

Even with this Taycan you are confident and sufficiently motorized. The curve slalom is only slightly less fun with this model than is the case with the top version. This Taycan also suffers from its weight in fast corners, but otherwise you curve around every corner with a smile. Especially if you choose the two dynamic driving programs “Sport” and “Sport Plus”. But even in the energy-saving range driving mode, the Taycan Cross Turismo is not anti-dynamic. But on the contrary. However, the dynamic spread of the driving modes is not as pronounced as with the Turbo S. Porsche specifies power consumption as a maximum of 26.4 kWh / 100 km. We exceeded this value by 0.7 kWh / 100 km, but we were sometimes faster on the highways.
