Nowhere could Lamborghini present its new dream sports car better than at The Quail, the world’s most exclusive car show in Pebble Beach. In front of the illustrious public, the Countach is enjoying its brilliant resurrection on its 50th birthday – as the LPI 800-4.
At Lamborghini, not only the high-performance series models Huracan, Aventador and Urus have been setting the tone for years, but also one-offs, small series and limited special editions are providing a lot of high-performance conversation piece in the super sports car scene. The new Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4, which the carmaker from Santa Agata is launching for the 50th anniversary of its classic, is exactly one of them. Like the body, the monocoque chassis of the cool new Countach edition is made of both light and high-strength carbon fiber. The Countach LPI 800-4 has a dry matter of almost 1,595 kilograms and a power-to-weight ratio of 1.95 kg / hp. The weight is distributed in a ratio of 43:57 at the expense of the rear axle. In addition to the white paint, the carbon fiber elements in the front splitter, on the windscreen frame and on the exterior mirrors, air inlets and sills are particularly noticeable. Not only is the design, with a transfer from the past to the present, spectacular, but the technology also gives a near-series outlook into the future. The unusual number of 112 vehicles produced is powered by a 6.5 liter naturally aspirated V12 engine with a high-speed concept supported by an electric module.
Lamborghini fans are already familiar with the drive package from the Sian, in which the mild hybrid technology creates a direct connection between the electric motor and the front wheels so as not to endanger the original character of the V12 vacuum cleaner in the rear. In the end, the new Countach edition also has 574 kW / 780 PS and 720 Nm, which, thanks to the 48-volt electric motor and super capacitor, are boosted by 34 PS. With such a hybrid fuel, the all-wheel drive flounder goes from standstill to 100 km / h in 2.8 seconds, 200 km / h in 8.6 seconds and a top speed of 355 km / h. “The Countach LPI 800-4 is a visionary car of the present, just like its predecessor,” explains Lamborghini-Stephan Winkelmann, “the Countach LPI 800-4 pays homage to this Lamborghini legacy, but it is not a look back: It shows how the legendary Countach of the 70s and 80s could have developed into an elite supersport model of this decade. “
While the premiere model at the Pebble Beach luxury event The Quail is painted in the white-bluish shimmering Bianco Siderale paintwork, 112 later customers can choose from a range of historical exterior paintwork, mostly in solid colors such as the legendary Impact White, Giallo Countach or also the color Verde Medio. On request, the super sports car, which costs around two million euros, is also available in modern paint finishes such as gray, purple and blue. The leather interior is available in four configurations – one or two colors. However, you should be economical with luggage – 63 liters of cargo space is not a lot.
