Car registrations fell 8.7% year-on-year in June

Compared to May, when 35,370 units had been reached, they fell 1.3%.

ACARA explained that June 2021 was influenced by a significant spill of patents from May of that year, due to the closure that the records had at that time for 8 days as a result of the health policies regarding COVID-19, which explains this abnormal low, according to the entity.

The two-month period May-June 2022 represented a volume of 75 thousand proprietary units.

It means year-on-year growth compared to the two-month period May-June 2021 (with 61,166 units) of more than 20%, which confirms the growth trend of the market this year, according to TO FACE.

In the six accumulated months of the year, 209,440 units were patented, 0.6% less than in the same period of 2021in which 210,732 vehicles had been registered.

Dollar effect and imports

The president of ACARA, Richard Salome, He said that the almost 35,000 units in June cannot be overlooked, surely we will have months ahead at these same levels, since the import restrictions of the last few days are not going to help increase the supply of units in the second semester “.

He also pointed out that “when there are sudden changes in the price of the dollar, the consumer expects the value to stabilize in order to finalize the purchase, which is why the figures for June are more than acceptable.”

“The market behaves unevenly, with brands and models in high demand, but others are in less demand, which is why we are beginning to see some opportunities in specific models,” he said.

Salomé highlighted “the positive fact that the patenting National vehicles reach 57%, and beyond a specific vehicle, which may have some delay, there are available models that are manufactured in the country, so my recommendation is that whoever can buy a car does so because, in addition to enjoying it , allows you to preserve value”.

“For those who are willing to adapt to the existing offer, today is a good time to buy a vehicle,” he said.

He highlighted the need to “go to a sustainable scenario, with a harmonious and balanced value chain, which is why a few days ago we raised in the Senate the need for a regulatory framework that establishes the rights and obligations of the automotive concession, as they exist in other countries of the world such as Spain, France, Germany, from the European Union, and Mexico, Brazil or the United States, from the American continent”.

“We continue to think of a market of 400,000 vehicles for this year, and it is possible to overcome it by working together and in action”, Salomé confided.
