Genesis GV60: The Korean luxury brand goes electric

The Korean luxury car brand Genesis has set itself the goal of presenting three electric cars on the European market in the first year. After the electrified G80, the GV60 is now the first all-electric model from the car manufacturer.

After the German premium manufacturers outbid each other in the past few months with announcements as to when the next electric models will roll out and the brands will switch completely to electric drives, Genesis, a premium brand from the Hyundai Group, does not want to fall behind.

The Genesis GV60 is based on the electrical platform on which the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 models are also on the move. The look of the Genesis GV60 is closely related to that of the Kia EV6, which will also be on the variable Electric-Global Modular Platform from the end of the year. In contrast to the Kia EV6, the GV60 offers the well-known Genesis design features with quad lights at the front and rear. A wide grille below the quad lights dominates the front view. The GV60 will be the first Genesis model to have digital exterior mirrors.

Genesis plans third electric car in a year

“When we started in Europe, we committed to bring three electric cars to the region within the first year,” says Dominique Boesch, Managing Director of Genesis Motor Europe, “we are proud that the GV60 is our second electric car for Europe shortly after the introduction of the electrified G80. The GV60, Genesis’s first electric car on its own platform, will offer a whole new experience as a luxury electric car based on our unique brand identity and will also benefit from our unique customer-centric offering benefit where service comes before sale. “

Inside there is a tidy cockpit with two twelve-inch screens and a head-up display. Thanks to the approximately 2.90 meter long wheelbase, there is plenty of space inside. It can be assumed that the Genesis GV60 will get the more powerful motor versions of the Kia EV6, which is available with two battery packs of 58 and 77 kWh. While the basic version with 125 kW / 170 PS or 168 kW / 229 PS is driven by the rear axle alone, the EV6 is also available with an all-wheel drive, which has either 173 kW / 235 PS or 239 kW / 325 PS / 605 Nm. At least the more powerful variants should also power the Genesis, which has either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive. The top model is likely to be a sports version, which, with its two electric motors, delivers a lush 430 kW / 584 hp and 740 Nm of maximum torque. The similarly motorized Kia EV6 GT accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.5 seconds and reaches 260 km / h.

See in the video: It looks like a car from the future. At the end of 2021, the US company Aptera plans to bring the “Sol” electric car onto the US market. The special thing about the futuristic design is that the vehicle’s battery can be charged by the sun.
