Because the skateboard is the central technical element of the second Fox Mia generation. The skateboard platform of the Fox Mia 2.0 not only contains the drive and battery technology, but also central functions for automated driving, vehicle stability and the necessary flexibility for the variable body hat of the new Mia generation, which is to be launched on the market in 2023 – of course purely electric. In contrast to most electric vehicles, the Mia 2.0 is not available with several battery sizes, but with a battery pack that can be expanded with a second one. As a result, the electric van has a battery capacity of 40 kWh, which can be expanded to more than 100 kWh if required and depending on the model. In addition to the normal version with an electric rear axle, the platform also offers the option of installing a second motor with an output of 30 kW / 45 PS on the front axle, turning the Mia into a real four-wheel drive. Even a fuel cell drive could be realized with the high-tech skateboard of the Fox Mia 2.0.

Mia has a history, because the first attempt with an electric city van around ten years ago flopped. After the company Fox E-Mobility, based in Munich, has now taken over the scepter, it is now more modern than ever in two years. With a similar concept and new technology. The Mia 2.0 is a crisp microvan with short overhangs, a long wheelbase and two sliding doors. As a one- to three-seater, it should attract private and commercial customers not only with its electric drive, but also with its efficient use of space. At the front there is only a single seat with a steering position for the driver, behind it there is space for two or three other occupants, while entry and exit, as with the first attempt at the Mia-Mobil, takes place via two sliding doors. In addition to the pure car variant, there is a version for commercial use that should be of particular interest for delivery services.

Not surprisingly, however, that the upcoming second generation Mia with a starting price of 16,000 euros will get new information via radio, which means that it can be updated online at any time. At the market launch in the first half of 2023, it will have driver assistance functions of the currently common level 2+; the next two levels three and four are technically prepared and can be activated. “With the new skateboard, we have a new modular concept that competes excellently in terms of costs, performance, technology and market flexibility,” says Dr. Christian Jung, Chief Development Officer at Fox E-Mobility, “It is another important step on our consistent path to the planned market launch of the Mia in 2023.”

The skateboard itself consists of a crash-proof structure made of steel. Track width, wheelbase and ground clearance are flexible, depending on the model and customer requirements – but what they all have in common is the central seating position of the driver. This is intended to reduce both development and production costs. Further reasons for the desired cost efficiency are the simple production option in variable quantities, a cost-effective repair strategy and the possibility of integrating standard parts. The platform allows different derivatives of the Mia product family such as shorter or longer models for three or four passengers or small delivery vans for urban centers with a volume of 1,500 liters.
