Alpha Motor Corporation: Back to the Future

Alpha Motor Corporation: Back to the Future

There is hardly a month in which a new electrical brand does not enter the automotive world stage. For a few months now, AMC – Alpha Motor Corporation – has caused a sensation, especially in the USA. But do the three automotive question marks Ace, Jax and especially the wolf have a market opportunity?

The premiere of the AMC Wolf in the famous Petersen Automobile Museum in Los Angeles caused a sensation not only among the Californian electro disciples. In Germany, Wolf is the military version of the rustic Mercedes G-Class and the AMC Wolf, as a counterpoint to modern electric drives, plays openly with its retro feelings on four wheels. Anyone who can see the trilogy of back-to-the-future films with leading actor Marty McFly alias Michael J. Fox in the cinema will also know the black Toyota Hilux with off-road tires, ram protection and additional headlights on the roll bar. And if you look at the AMC Wolf, you can hardly deny a certain similarity to the movie car of yore.

But while the American mid-size pick-up of the mid-eighties was powered by a three-liter V6 petrol engine, the Alpha Motor Corporation, unsurprisingly, relied on electric drives for its vehicles. In addition to the electric wolf and its all too sporty derivatives, AMC also offers the two vehicles Ace and Jax in different versions on its website. The AMC Ace, which is only 4.18 meters long and weighs 1.6 tons, is a compact sports sedan according to the specifications of Ford Escort, Lancia Fulvia or BMW 1 Series M Coupé with lots of retro genes. The electric drive takes place in the classic way via the rear axle. The 4.56 meter long Jax, on the other hand, is a compact crossover somewhere between a coupé and a sedan – also electric, of course, and always cool in design. With its battery pack, it has a range of 400 kilometers. There is a choice of front or all-wheel drive.

However, the AMC Wolf was unveiled in the Petersen Museum, the only model that currently seems to exist in real life. The 4.83-meter-long electric pick-up not only shines with its design, but not least with its price of 36,000 to 46,000 US dollars. There is a choice of rear-wheel drive or two electric motors on the front and rear axles, which accelerate the pick-up from a standstill to 100 km / h in under 6.5 seconds. The battery pack, which is not defined in more detail, is to achieve ranges between 400 and 450 kilometers if the Californian is to come onto the market after production has started in the fourth quarter of 2023. Not only important for the US home market; the trailer load should be 1,360 kilograms, while the wheels are surprisingly small with a size of 16 to 18 inches. As with Jax and Ace, the passenger cell has a puristic design, two seats, animated instruments and a large center display.

In addition to the normal AMC Wolf with a single cabin, there is the electric pick-up, like the usual load masters on the US market, also with a larger single and a double cabin as the Wolf + and as a 5.45-meter-long Superwolf Truck. It can cover up to 500 kilometers with one battery charge and can hook over three tons. Wait and see whether the Alpha Motor Corporation, which was only founded in 2020, is just an electric air number or whether it really comes onto the market. Dreaming must be allowed – especially with electric cars. And after all, the film also says: Back to the future.
