Since this year, the GHG quota has been bringing in several hundred euros for private owners of electric vehicles. Now those vehicles enable another source of income. The GHG quota allows you to earn additional money with your own wall box.
Owners of electric vehicles can already expect more than 300 euros for the saved CO2 emissions as part of the GHG quota. Now there is a new source of income: Anyone who owns an electric car or a plug-in hybrid and a private wall box can bring the tapped electricity into the CO2 trade, as “Heise” reports. All you have to do is report the amount of electricity charged in kilowatt hours in a portal. According to the media report, there are around ten cents per kilowatt hour.
This is currently possible via the “together Stromen GmbH”. Because they are now transferring the offer to private individuals. Operators of public charging stations have long been benefiting from cash payments through GHG quota trading.
Wallbox must be declared as public
The small hack here: Your own wall box must be declared as public. Luca Schmadalla, CEO at zusammenstromen, however, agrees with “Heise”: “Making a wall box public does not mean that it can be found in online directories.” According to Schmadalla, it is up to the users themselves whether and to whom this information is made accessible.
The requirements of the charging station regulation (LSV) must be met. But this is already the case if you theoretically make the wallbox publicly accessible for one minute a day. In practice, however, the private loading point does not have to be accessible to others.
For example, with a power consumption of 20 kWh over 15,000 kilometers a year at the home wall box, you should be able to get around 300 euros – given the high electricity prices, this is certainly a lucrative additional source of income. It doesn’t matter whether the electricity comes from the solar system or the public power grid. The Federal Environment Agency, as the competent authority, does not check the specified amount of electricity as a matter of principle. In case of suspicion, however, spot checks may be carried out.
Other providers are likely to follow, as is already the case with trading in CO2 certificates. In addition to private individuals, companies can now also use GHG quota trading for their charging points.
