Holidays in your own country are still in vogue. So it is hardly surprising that sales of mobile homes increased significantly in the past year. Delivery difficulties within the industry, however, reduce success slightly.
The Germans still have a great desire for camping. This shows the current registration numbers of the Caravaning Industry Association (CIVD). The demand for motorhomes continues to be particularly high. The number of new caravan registrations would have risen more strongly under normal conditions. But according to CIVD information, the caravanning industry is currently suffering particularly badly from delivery problems. Many components and raw materials are currently hardly available due to the pandemic and sluggish supply chains, so that the continued very high demand can sometimes not be met. “The manufacturers have hundreds of vehicles that are practically finished, but cannot be delivered because a certain part is missing.”

Camping tourism is an essential part of the German tourism industry. In Germany there are more than 2,800 open campsites with around 209,100 available spaces. Most of the campsites are in Bavaria, followed by Lower Saxony and Baden-Württemberg. In terms of the number of parking spaces, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is one of the top three federal states in German camping tourism, alongside Bavaria and Lower Saxony, with around 26,700 parking spaces.
Most of the around 34 million overnight stays on German campsites were also counted in these federal states. The most popular camping destination for German travelers is still Germany. For foreign tourists, camping sites are less popular as a form of accommodation for their vacation in Germany. Around seven percent of foreign tourists in Germany chose a campsite as their form of accommodation in 2020. By far the greatest number of foreign guests come from the Netherlands.
