Industry Secretary José de Mendiguren announced last week that Renault will manufacture the new Oroch pickup in the country. It has an ongoing investment of more than US$300 million in the Córdoba plant. From the automaker, they quickly came out to clarify that “the model to be produced has not yet been confirmed.” There is always speculation and mystery is played before a new vehicle. As Ámbito learned, the information circulating in the company is that it will be a new platform under the name of project H 13-12 for a pickup that is not currently produced in any market. It would be bigger than the current Oroch and smaller than the Alaskan. It would even have a new name. Some 55,000 units would be produced, the majority for export, starting in November 2025. The other interesting fact is that a more flexible labor regime is sought for current personnel so that they close the numbers, similar to that of some of the new workers who entered that plant where Nissan also produces. Renault’s problem is that half of the workers in Santa Isabel have more than 20 years of seniority and a high cost of man-hours. With 35 days of vacation each one, it is complicated to put together the shifts and cover the vacancies in the summer so as not to stop the factory for so long. They also charge different overtime hours. There are different alternatives under study to make the labor regime more flexible. An extreme way out would be to indemnify all that personnel and take them back under the new agreement counting, from scratch, seniority, vacations and salary. December can be a key month.
