Fascination: LEVC TX5 Farelady Edition: Noble through the city

Hardly any taxi is as well known around the world as the London taxi, which has become electric over the years. The Farelady Edition shows how elegant and luxurious such an everyday vehicle can be on the streets of the British metropolis. And not only there.

The London Electric Vehicle Company, formerly known as the London Taxi Company, has been producing the iconic taxi par excellence for years. Their flagship is the electric TX5, which offers a range of over 500 kilometers with its range extender and is now also on the road in many European cities. With a full 31 kWh battery pack, the TX5 can cover around 100 kilometers purely electrically before the range extender with its 67 kW / 91 hp petrol engine steps in, which is powered by a 38.5 liter tank. This means a standard consumption of 0.8 liters / 100 kilometers or power consumption of 22.8 kWh. The drive of the Farelady Edition is identical to the normal TX5, which is powered by a 110 kW / 150 hp electric motor on the rear axle. The top speed: 128 km/h.

After vehicle refiner Kahn was commissioned by the London Taxi Company in 2017 to create the last five units of the predecessor TX4, the British are now launching the particularly elegant Farelady Edition. “It’s always a privilege to work on one of the most iconic cars in the world. The Last of Line edition was a great success for us and the vehicles have all found homes with private collectors,” says company boss Afzal Kahn, “I look forward to working with new customers who want their own piece of British history in the form of the TX5 taxis want to go on a trip.” Despite its stately dimensions, the maneuverability of the London taxi is legendary, because the LECV TX5 Farelady also has a turning circle of less than 8.50 metres.

The fleet operator or individual customer can choose the paintwork in which he orders his 2.3-ton TX5 in the Farelady Edition, which rolls on 18- and 19-inch aluminum wheels. Black, blue, green, gray or silver are available ex works, and you can also choose between different color schemes for the interior. The charm of the historic London taxi can still be seen, but the special edition is more elegant than ever. Among other things, there is a noble individual seat system with leather of your choice, countless USB ports and a separate climate control system together with an intercom system for contact with the driver. A large panoramic roof creates a pleasant atmosphere, and in the dark the roof liner sparkles with countless LED stars, just like the Rolls-Royce model. In addition to the two strongly contoured sports seats, there are two further seats that can be folded out against the direction of travel, so that up to four people can sit in the rear, who can enjoy the leather-covered interior with its wooden elements.

“One can imagine customers riding in the back seat of this iconic vehicle, which boasts extremely luxurious appointments and a classic, understated design, while at the same time reducing city emissions and operators making significant savings in the process,” emphasizes Afzal Kahn. So much exclusivity has its price and it starts at 99,000 British pounds (approx. 115,000 euros), which means an additional charge of around 50,000 euros (net) to the normal LEVC TX5 Vista. Incidentally, the fact that an important guest is on board is shown by the illuminated VIP sign on the roof, which replaces the normal taxi sign if desired when heading to the hotel, restaurant or tourist attraction.
