The number of newly registered e-cars in Germany has been increasing rapidly lately. Car manufacturers are increasingly producing electric vehicles. Now the Federal Motor Transport Authority has presented the latest figures.
German automakers are ahead of the pack when it comes to new registrations of electric cars and plug-in hybrids in their home market. In the first nine months alone, 45 percent of the new cars registered came with these drives from the four brands VW, Mercedes, BMW and Audi. This comes from figures from the Federal Motor Transport Authority.
VW is ahead with 84,300 new registrations, followed by Mercedes with a good 52,300, ahead of BMW with 41,400 and Audi with 37,900. Only in fifth place follows Tesla as the first importer with around 26,000 vehicles.
Tesla is catching up with e-car registrations
When it comes to purely battery-powered electric cars, Volkswagen is also ahead with 54,400. However, Tesla is already in second place with 26,000. Hyundai (18,800) and Renault (18,000) are followed by importers. In the case of plug-in hybrids, on the other hand, the ranking is Mercedes (44,000), BMW (30,700), VW (29,900), Audi (28,600).

The most common all-electric car in the first nine months was the Tesla Model 3, which with almost 24,000 was responsible for almost all new registrations of the brand. This is followed by the Up and ID.3 models from Volkswagen with 21,900 and 21,500 new registrations, respectively.
