New presentation: BMW X5 / X6 facelift: American double pack

New presentation: BMW X5 / X6 facelift: American double pack

After the big premieres of the new 7 Series and the power SUV XM, it is now the turn of the next double pack from BMW. The Bavarians are revising their extremely successful twin pair of BMW X5 and X6. In addition to a new design at the front and rear, the technology is also being made fit for the coming years. The new plug-in hybrid should be of particular interest to many customers.

Not unusual for a facelift are the front and rear light units and the aprons, the most striking changes to the new luxury crossover, which are manufactured in the American plant in Spartanburg. The new light signature at the front is underlined by the optionally illuminated kidney grille. The coupé crossover of the BMW X6 now also comes with the M Sport package as standard to further differentiate it from the X5. Inside, the consistently curved large display with two screens measuring 12.3 and 14.9 inches diagonally and the latest operating system from models such as the BMW XM has now also been adopted in the premium SUV.

The new core engine is the plug-in hybrid of the 4.93 meter long BMW X5 xDrive 50e, whose three-liter in-line six-cylinder is supported by a 145 kW / 197 hp / 450 Nm electric motor that is invisibly housed in the housing of the standard eight-speed automatic transmission. The overall performance of the new hybrid increases to 360 kW / 490 hp / 700 Nm. That is 70 kW / 96 hp more than in the previous generation, which means that the all-wheel drive crossover accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds and has an unchanged top speed of 250 km/h. The battery pack has increased by around a quarter to 25.7 kWh, which means that the purely electric range is now between 94 and 110 kilometers. The charging speed has also been improved, as it has doubled from 3.7 to 7.4 kWh. The standard consumption: 0.8 liters Super or 22.9 kWh per 100 kilometers. The hybrid BMW X5 has an electric speed of 140 km/h.

The top model is the BMW X5 / X6 M60i xDrive, which is powered by the same 4.4-liter V8 twin turbo that, with its 390 kW / 530 hp / 750 Nm, has already given models such as the new BMW 7 Series or the M850i wings. These two engines are completed by a three-liter, six-cylinder diesel and a petrol engine, also with a displacement of three liters and six combustion chambers, which offer both an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. Thanks to the 48-volt electrical system, the performance of the two X5 / X6 diesel models has increased to 219 kW / 298 hp / 670 Nm. The standard consumption: 7.0 to 8.2 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers. The entry-level petrol engine of the BMW X5 40i has been increased to 280 kW / 380 hp. Also thanks to 48 mild hybrid technology, there is a boost to 540 Nm of torque and reduced consumption of 8.5 liters of Super.

The two X models are equipped with an adaptive chassis and wheels between 19 and 22 inches as standard; if desired, this package can be expanded to include roll stabilization or air springs. Market launch is in April 2023.
