Forget Bentley and Rolls Royce: The most expensive SUV in the world comes from China and is said to cost a whopping two million. This price is asked for the basic version, spoiled customers can also upgrade the Karlmann King to four million. Then the Brummer also has armor.
Oversized car
The whimsical vehicle is based on a heavy-duty pick-up. Under the jagged body is a Ford F-550. Including the Ford’s 6.8-liter V10 engine, which is now said to produce 400 hp.
The Karlmann King is one thing above all: powerful. The monster weighs six tons and is 2.50 meters wide. Incidentally, 2.50 meters is the absolute limit for heavy trucks. Anyone wider than that has to drive over the roads as a secured convoy with excess width. If the armor is omitted, the Karlmann weighs only 4.5 tons.
Its counterpart is therefore not a normal SUV either, even the Lincoln Navigator looks lanky next to a Karlmann, it corresponds more to the US Army’s new personnel carrier, the Oshkosh JLTV. The Karlmann doesn’t really like to get going, it’s over at 140 km/h. Inside, it looks like a Donald Trump-style lavish suite. A champagne fridge and an espresso machine are available to passengers. They reside in a luxury cabin, the driver is separated from them by a thick pane.
Above all, powerful
According to the Chinese manufacturer, only ten Karlmann-Kings will ever be built. They are said to be made in Germany. How the Chinese got their name from Karlmann remains a mystery. Karlmann was the hapless brother and rival of Charlemagne. From which the fellow king was marginalized.
By the way, the Karlmann is not the work of a crazy designer. The Chinese company IAT is behind the military SUV. IAT is one of the largest development offices in China and works with almost all major Chinese automobile manufacturers.
