In the first ten months of the year, 1,386,115 used cars were sold, with a growth of 14.43% compared to the same period in 2020, when 1,211,305 units were sold.
“The trend that has been taking place since the beginning of the year continues: we grow one month and the next we lower sales volumes”said the president of the CEC, Alberto Príncipe.
But he considered positive that “year-on-year declines do not exceed 9% and the sector in these 10 months of the year continues with significant growth: 14%”.
Príncipe said that “with two months remaining until the end of 2021, it is still maintained that the market will end with a volume of 1,700,000 units.”
“Within this context, the demand remains firm and continues to occur within a notorious and increasingly alarming shortage of used vehicles in the 12,000 agencies throughout the country,” he warned.
He warned that “if the trend continues, there is no doubt that the entry of young cars to the market in 2022 will be meager according to the existing demand, therefore the sector would fall to the levels of the beginning of the pandemic.”
He explained that “the usual dynamics of the market moves according to the economic context in which one lives. Between 2 or 2.2 million people in Argentina every year buy a 0km car or a used one. The vast majority of the latter.”
