Mercedes-Benz announces investment in truck and bus division

Next week, the division Mercedes-Benz Trucks and Buses make an announcement of investments for the property that it acquired last year in the Buenos Aires town of Zárate.

It’s about a progress in the separation process of the Vans division – which produces the utility Sprinter – with which today they share the same facilities also in the Buenos Aires provincein this case in the town of Virrey del Pino.

This separation is part of the global restructuring that the German brand carried out and that is coming to fruition in Argentina. This consisted of divide the automotive group into three companies.

At the end of 2022, the company belonging to the Daimler Truck AG group announced an investment in the country for $20 million with the objective of acquiring a 20-hectare property in Zárate to build a logistics center for auto parts and spare parts.

At that time, it was reported that once this stage had elapsed, progress would be made in generating a production hub of auto parts and vehicles in the segment.

The new investment, which will be announced on Thursday the 20th of this month, is on the way to that.

Within this strategy, The Buses and Trucks division will move from Virrey del Pino to Zárate to finish carrying out the separation stage. There it will move the assembly lines of the models it manufactures today, such as the Accelo and Atego trucks and different versions of buses.

The transfer decision has already been made, although the timing is unknown. In any case, it is estimated that it won’t be for a very long time since there is a need to expand production to increase exports and generate their own currencies and that is not possible in the current location.

This is part of a regional restructuring of this division since I could receive models that are produced in Brazil today because the plant in the neighboring country will focus on electric trucks and buses. In that sense, the Argentine subsidiary will remain with the manufacture of vehicles traditional combustion.

To this would be added the production of auto parts in the country.

The Buses and Trucks division employs about 250 operatorsplus administrative staff.

During last year’s announcement, the CEO of Mercedes.Benz Trucks and Buses, Raúl Barcesatpointed out: “Our trucks transport raw materials and finished products to every corner of the country. In the same way, our buses transport Argentines in the short, medium and long distance throughout Argentina. Today, we want to announce the first step of a new stage for Mercedes Benz Camiones y Buses de Argentina which confirms our commitment to the country in the long term”
