Driving curiosities: beer, suckers and three-ply toilet paper: these car names are really embarrassing

Products need good names – cars especially. After all, the name of the vehicle is usually very clearly stated on the tailgate. But there are numerous cases where the branding didn’t work well. Some examples.

Would you drive with a “pile of poop”? Or with a car called “iMiev”? Probably not. It is all the more astonishing that international companies such as Audi, Mitsubishi, Toyota and Lamborghini still come up with names for their cars that are loudly laughed at in large linguistic regions of the world.

What’s wrong with a car called “X 350 d”?

Marketing department misdeeds range from below-the-belt jokes to ill-advised combinations of letters and numbers. Or would you have guessed that a car called the “X 350 d” could become an internet joke?

It is therefore not always easy to find an internationally absolutely safe name for a product. But it turns out that you should particularly confront Spanish and French native speakers with your ideas – because huge mistakes happen here surprisingly often.

In the gallery you will find some examples in which the search for the right name for a car ended with a big kick in the butt – much to the amusement of other road users.
