In 2021, criminals have begun to use more difficult-to-detect auto insurance fraud schemes.
So, for example, they began to arrange an accident where an expensive car is damaged, and to conduct video filming confirming the accident. Having received an insurance payment and superficially repaired the car, the criminals again arrange an accident. According to this scheme, some expensive cars get into accidents 10 times a year, said VSS Vice President Sergei Efremov.
Insurance companies have confirmed this trend. Criminals choose a car that the insurer cannot repair under the OSAGO law, for example, because of the long delivery time for parts for Japanese cars or because of the high cost of parts, like for Jaguar and BMW, where the amount of damage will exceed the liability limit.
In such cases, the company will have to pay compensation in cash, the Soglasie press service reported. Fraudsters often have their own car services, where they quickly and superficially eliminate damage, added Viktor Alekseev, Deputy General Director of SK MAKS.
A number of insurance companies reported that damage from auto insurance fraud has increased this year compared to the previous year. For the first nine months of 2021, this figure reached 2.9 billion rubles, according to the ARIA.
