Experts have named the most common mistakes of drivers on the winter road

In winter, many novice drivers make mistakes that can lead to accidents. On December 10, experts of the services “SberServices” and “SberAvto” told how drivers most often make mistakes and how to avoid it.

The first common mistake is not keeping the required distance. The safe distance should be 3-5 seconds for the vehicle. To calculate it correctly, you need to select some stationary object in front and as soon as the rear bumper of the car in front passes this object, start counting: 501, 502, 503, 504, and then end the countdown. This is the required distance, experts said.

In addition, it must be remembered that heavy braking can be dangerous even in summer on dry roads, but in winter it can also cause an accident. In this regard, it must be borne in mind that the braking distance in winter is many times greater.

The third mistake that drivers often make at this time of year is sudden maneuvers and lane changes. If the car skidded in a corner, then for a rear-wheel drive car, you need to reduce the gas to a minimum, but do not release it, and turn the steering wheel in the direction of the skid. When driving a front-wheel drive vehicle, hold the steering wheel in the direction of travel and load the drive wheels by smoothly pressing the gas.

Among other things, drivers often neglect the speed limit. The experts reminded that the speed should be reasonable in slippery weather.

It is also necessary to change tires to winter tires in time, since summer tires stop working correctly already at +7 degrees.

Finally, in winter, many drivers neglect to wash their cars and even completely clear them of snow before starting a trip, and therefore provoke emergencies. It is also very important to regularly check the health of the lighting fixtures and clean them thoroughly.

Earlier, on November 26, the traffic police said that the main causes of road accidents among novice drivers are the wrong choice of distance and the inconsistency of speed with specific driving conditions. Also, the mistakes of novice drivers included non-observance of the sequence of passage, violation of the rules for driving a pedestrian crossing and violation of the rules for rebuilding.
