The winner of the Japan Car of the Year (JCOTY) competition in 2021 is the next-generation Nissan Note compact hatchback. This was announced on December 14 on the website of the award.
It is noted that the jury of the competition included 60 Japanese auto journalists. Voting took place after test runs at the Sodegaura Forest Raceway, which is located near Tokyo.
During the voting, Nissan Note scored 335 points and took first place. The model is equipped with a 1.2-liter gasoline engine with 82 hp, which is used as a generator to recharge the battery. A 136-horsepower electric motor acts as a traction unit.
The second place in the competition was taken by Toyota GR86 / Subaru BRZ (264 points). In third place is the Honda HR-V crossover, which scored 227 points. The fourth and fifth places are taken by Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV (206) and Volkswagen Golf (168), respectively.
On April 21, it was reported that in 2021 the German electric car Volkswagen ID.4 became the owner of the World Car of the Year title. The jury members of the World Car Awards cast the majority of votes for him. At the decisive stage of the competition, the models had to compete with the Toyota Yaris and Honda E.
