In this way, 2024 recorded the worst start to the year in vehicle registrations for 20 years. You have to go back to January 2004 to find a minor record.

The data indicates that February will be another negative month for the sector. Projections for the February market point to a patent volume of around 24,000 units.

The data from the beginning of this year is worrying since January represents, seasonally, the month with the highest volume of patents each year, because many sales made in November and December are transferred to register the following year to have a car. as a model of that year.

In concrete numbers, it is estimated that January is the equivalent of just over 11% of the annual market. If a linear projection is made, the volume of operations in 2024 would have to be between 300,000 and 340,000 units. To get an idea of the market decline, 450,000 vehicles were sold in 2023.

In any case, in the sector they estimate that this difference can be reduced since they believe that what is happening in the market will not be projected all year. In that case, the market would tend to be above 350,000 units.

In that sense, the exchange rate had an increase of 349% in those 12 months, while the CPI rose 254%, both variables exceeded the increase in 0km.

Increase in pickups

The study indicates that the segment that had the greatest price increase was pickup trucks with an increase of 20.6%. Most of these models are produced in the country and have the advantage of having greater availability since they do not depend on the problems of importing which, although restrictions have been eliminated, still do not operate completely normally.

The second segment that exceeded the average increases for January is light utility vehicles, cwith an increase of 17.9%, while that of SUVs was also above with a 17.4% increase.
