British actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson has been tipped to be the new James Bond. But now the role assignment, which was believed to be certain, is followed by a denial.
He would probably have cut a good figure, but apparently the race to succeed Daniel Craig as James Bond is still not decided. It has now been denied that British actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson will take on the role.
After the British newspaper reported that the “Kick-Ass” star was officially offered to play James Bond, it has now put an end to the speculation. A production insider revealed that there was no truth to the rumors.
Originally it was said that the deal with Taylor-Johnson was almost done and that he was about to officially accept the role of a lifetime. This would make him only the seventh actor to play the iconic British secret agent since the successful film series began in 1962.
New James Bond: Idris Elba tops survey list
A recent poll found that London-born film star Idris Elba is still the first choice for the role, despite being 51 – old for a Bond candidate – and having already taken himself out of the running to concentrate on his crime drama “Luther” (since 2010).

Aaron Taylor-Johnson himself had already commented on the rumors last week that he could follow in Bond’s footsteps. He told the magazine: “I think it’s charming and wonderful that people see me in this role. I consider it a huge compliment.”
Taylor-Johnson began acting as a child and was able to further advance his career with appearances in “Avengers” films (2014, 2015), “Nocturnal Animals” (2016) and “The King’s Man: The Beginning” (2021). In “The Fall Guy,” announced for May, he will play the role of a famous action star who disappears alongside Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt.
In “James Bond 007: Casino Royale” (2006), Daniel Craig took on the iconic role of Pierce Brosnan. The last film to date, “James Bond 007: No Time to Die”, was released in cinemas in 2021.
