Burglary protection for motorhomes, campers & co: 5 tips for more security

Camping on four wheels is a popular way to travel. Last year alone, more than 40 million overnight stays were recorded at German campsites. The mobile sleeping cars are full during the holiday season and are therefore attractive to thieves. This makes it all the more important to have the right burglary protection for your vehicle.

In fact, it is not uncommon for break-ins to occur more frequently at campsites during the holiday season. Thieves are not only after the travel goods – especially electronic devices such as smartphones, digital cameras and laptops. The vehicles themselves are also an attractive target for theft. According to one study, 340 camping vehicles were stolen across Germany in 2023. To make it as difficult as possible for burglars to get inside a motorhome, camper or caravan, or to steal the mobile sleeping cars altogether, you can take preventive security measures. We will introduce you to five of them today.

Protection against theft: five options

1. Rear door lock

Burglars are experienced in breaking into a locked rear door from the outside. Once it has been broken open, thieves have an easy job. To prevent them from entering, the simple installation (without drilling) of a special For campers, a stainless steel lock between the door panel and the locking cylinder is useful. It is designed to prevent burglars from getting inside, even if they have already cracked the door lock.

2. Steering wheel clamp

If your motorhome, camper or caravan has been stolen, the probability that you will ever see your vehicle again is slim.
