The plan includes the construction of eight battery plants and that as of 2025, all its new vehicle platforms will only manufacture electricity.
The Vision EQXX, described as ‘the most efficient Mercedes-Benz ever built’, will have “an energy consumption of less than 10 kilowatt hours (kWh) per 100 km”, as they assured from Daimler.
Tesla’s Model S 60 currently consumes 18.1 kWh over the same distance, according to company data from Elon Musk.
“The Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX is how we envision the future of electric cars,” said Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Kaellenius.
Daimler will test the prototype before mid-year on various types of terrain, according to Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Markus Schaefer.
Some components of the prototype will be available in Mercedes-Benz vehicles in two to three yearsadded.
However, the CTO did not want to specify when the 1000km range battery will be ready for the market: “We will probably be the first to show a car with 1000 km of autonomy in real life, with such a small battery,” said the executive..
The prototype, built in 18 months, “puts an end to autonomy anxiety,” Mercedes-Benz said, referring to one of the main obstacles why electric vehicles have not been in greater demand.
