The Russian auto industry and the car market showed an increase in key indicators at the end of 2021. This was stated by the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov on Wednesday, December 12.
He said that, according to preliminary data, in 2021 the production of cars in the country exceeded 1.5 million units, which is 10% more than in 2020. Production growth in the passenger car segment was about 8%.
Sales of new cars on the Russian market over the past year amounted to 1.8 million units, and this is more than 6% higher than the results of the previous year.
According to preliminary data, 1.5 million cars were produced in Russia last year, and 1.4 million units in 2020.
The Minister noted that measures to stimulate localization and support demand for cars produced in Russia helped to maintain positive dynamics.
“The system of electronic passports of vehicles, which shows these data in real time, allows us to quickly, practically online, assess the situation in the automotive market today,” Manturov emphasized.
Earlier in the day, Olivier Morne, vice president for sales and marketing of AvtoVAZ, at a press conference dedicated to the results of 2021, said that car sales in Russia grew by 5% that year, to 1.65 million.
