Avtovaz estimated the growth of the Russian car market in 2021 at 5%

Car sales in Russia, according to AvtoVAZ, grew by 5% last year – to 1.65 million. On January 12, the executive vice president for sales and marketing of the company Olivier Morne told reporters at a press conference dedicated to the results of 2021.

AvtoVAZ sold 2% more cars last year – 351 thousand Lada cars. The company’s share in passenger car sales in Russia was 22%, decreasing for the first time since 2014.

“The first half of 2021 was significantly more dynamic in terms of annualized sales, but the global auto parts shortage in the second half of the year significantly impacted sales, which we previously expected to be higher,” Morne said.

The ten most popular cars in Russia last year in terms of sales included four Lada models: Vesta (1), Granta (2), Niva (6) and Largus VP (10).

AvtoVAZ sold 113.7 thousand Lada Vesta cars, this model accounts for 6.8% of all sales in Russia last year. The number of sold Lada Granta cars amounted to 111.4 thousand (share of 6.7%). The share of Lada Granta in total sales in Russia decreased by 1.2 pp. by 2020 due to the global crisis in the supply of electronic components. Sales of the new Lada Largus amounted to 50.1 thousand, Lada NIVA Legend and Travel – 50.2 thousand.

Export sales of Lada cars at AvtoVAZ grew by 9.4% in 2021, to 34.8 thousand units. The main export markets for the automaker are Belarus (Lada’s market share is 25%), Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan.

AvtoVAZ sells its cars in 14 more countries, including Ukraine, Mongolia, Armenia, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Egypt, Bolivia.

In December, the experts of the Lada.Online portal analyzed the price increases for Lada cars in 2021 and found out which of them rose in price the most. The first place was taken by the Lada Largus van, the price of which increased by 23.05% over the year. In second place is the passenger version of Lada Largus, which has risen in price by 20.57%. The third place is occupied by the Lada Vesta sedan, the cost of which increased by 20.1%.

The least expensive Lada Xray Cross (12.46%) and Lada Niva Travel (13.77%). On average, in 2021, the price for Lada increased by 16.77%. That year, AvtoVAZ massively increased the prices of its cars seven times.
