In Russia, the number of accidents at railway crossings increased by 7% in 2021, to 219 accidents. This was reported in the press service of Russian Railways on Monday, January 17.

“In 2021, there were 219 accidents at railway crossings, which is 7% more than in 2020. In these accidents, 133 people were injured, and 49 of them died, ”the ministry said in a statement.

Russian Railways clarified that the main causes of road accidents at crossings are traffic violations (traffic rules), when drivers drive out on the road at a prohibitory traffic light, as well as a car that has broken down on the tracks, the Moscow City News Agency reports.

Drivers were urged to strictly observe traffic rules when driving through railway crossings. “Make sure the vehicle is in good working order. Be guided by the requirements of road signs, traffic lights, markings, the position of the barrier and the instructions of the duty officer. When leaving for the crossing, make sure that there is no approaching train, ”the press service concluded.

Earlier, on December 24, at a railway crossing at the Kulunda-Tabuna section in the Altai Territory, a freight train collided with a bus traveling along the Barnaul-Yarovoe route. There were 16 people in the Ikarus salon. As a result, nine people were injured, there were no deaths.
