Built in China and imported at the end of last year, The route of the solar train is 45 kilometers in the mountainous landscape of Jujuy, although there is an expectation to increase its trajectory to 300 kilometers. It has two formations and one capacity of 240 passengers and its maximum speed is 30 km/h. Only one other train with the same characteristics circulates in Australia.


The train has been operating since June of this year and works in a hybrid way, propelled by solar energy and powered by lithium batteries. It has four stations (Volcán, Purmamarca, Tumbaya and Maimará) throughout the Humahuaca ravine and it is possible to use it from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Their rates range between $10,000 (for residents of Jujuy) and $40,000 (for tourists), with special prices for retired travelers.
Town of Jujuy will compete for UN tourism recognition
This week, the Jujuy town of Canyons was chosen by the national Ministry of Tourism to represent Argentina in the application for the award Best Tourism Villages 2024an initiative of the UN Tourism that seeks to distinguish towns considered examples of destinations of rural tourism in the world.
Canyons It is located in the department of Cochinoca, about 178 kilometers from the provincial capital. Its historical value is national heritage, given that it was a transit point for colonial caravans as one of the branches of the Inca Trail. That is why it has one of the most important rock treasures in the country and the region, with Inca pictographs and petroglyphs located in its rock formations.
