Liam Neeson He admitted that time is ticking for him to stay as an action star. “I’m 72 years old,” Neeson told People. “This has to stop at some point”.
Since becoming an action icon at age 50, Neeson has always performed his own fight scenes, although he also calls on his longtime collaborator, Mark Vanselowwhen it comes to more elaborate stunts. While age hasn’t stopped him during a production yet, the actor isn’t interested in waiting long enough for it to become a factor.
“You can’t fool the public”he continued. “I don’t want Mark to fight for me in my fight scenes.”
While Neeson has not officially announced his retirement from action, he shared that is considering 2025 as its last year in the genre. “Maybe late next year,” he added. “I think that’s it.”
Neeson has more than one action-packed thriller in the works. Along with Cold Storage and the upcoming sequel film, The Ice Road 2: Road to the SkyNeeson is set to headline an action comedy reboot, The Naked Gun of Akiva Schaffer from The Lonely Island.
Before any of those films hit the big screen, Neeson will show off his special skills in Absolutiona thriller that will be released in theaters on November 1.
Directed by Hans Petter Molandthe film stars Neeson as a man who (and this may sound familiar) takes revenge on the criminal organization that made the mistake of siding with him. This time, Neeson plays a boxer and low-level criminal who suffers from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE).
Moland, who previously directed Neeson in Cold Pursuit from 2019, not only praised its ability to hold its own during action sequences, but also its ability to inject humanity into the genre.
“When he’s immersed in the character that he is, you see the pain,” Moland said. “He becomes that man.”
After making a name for himself with dramatic performances in Schindler’s List and Kinseythe Irish actor played mentor roles in films such as Star Wars: The Phantom Menace and Batman Begins. Then it came Relentless Search which marked a surprise second act for Neeson after grossing $145 million in 2008 and eventually spawning two lucrative sequels. Neeson then began starring in similar violent revenge thrillers.
