The company’s decision was due to the cancellation of international flights due to a lack of pilots. Tension continues between the Government and the unions.

Aerolíneas Argentinas informed the unions AAA (crew), APA (ramp and check in) and APLA (pilots) that suspended summons for joint meetings. The measure will apply “until the forceful measures that have a direct impact on passengers are withdrawn,” it was officially reported.

The company had resumed talks with the unions on Thursday, after a two-month impasse. Senior officials from the Transportation area and the Chief of Staff participated in that meeting along with the general secretaries of the unions in conflict.

“This meeting, which was requested by Pablo Birohad the objective of advancing a solution that would avoid further harm to Aerolíneas Argentinas passengers. “Technical meetings were then held on Friday at the company’s corporate building and follow-up meetings were scheduled for this week,” a company statement said.

“However, even in this context of reopening work tables, The APLA union made the decision to cause the cancellation of four long-range international flights that were scheduled for this last weekend. “Despite having the tools to avoid these cancellations, from APLA there was a manifest lack of interest and will in making these flights operate,” the text added.

While APLA denies political connotations in its forceful measures, flight cancellations due to lack of qualified pilots continue in Ezeiza and now also in Aeroparque. By not carrying out the pilots’ processes in the flight simulators located in Ezeiza (CEFEPRA)the authorizations that first affected long distance services and now regional and cabotage services began to expire.

This Monday there were canceled flights at Aeroparque due to the lack of pilots and airport sources indicated to Noticias Argentinas that, if the conflict is not resolved, the situation would worsen as the days went by.

“This irresponsible provocation by the authorities of APLA shows that the salary conflict is an excuse for the union’s authorities – but not for its members – to wage a personal political battle. And in this act, they dragged out the possibility of continuing any type of exchange with the other unions despite their willingness to continue the talks,” said Aerolíneas, which quantified this last weekend 2,178 passengers who could not travel to Cancun, Miami, Rome and Madrid.
