Motorcycles: after the rebound in the second half, brands face 2025 with optimism

The market recorded a high level of patents in October 2024, despite delays in the delivery of patented plates since July. The truth is that during the month, 45,600 units were patented, 12.3% more than in September and 5.9% above October 2023. However, in the accumulated of the year, with 385,122 units between January and October, sales are 3.1% lower than those of the same period in 2023 (397,381 units).

The economic crisis, marked by devaluation and lower purchasing power, influenced the fall of new motorcycle sales during the first six months of the year. Starting in July, both markets showed recovery, with more significant increases in used ones. In recent months, new motorcycles began to stabilize, achieving moderate but sustained growth, closing October with higher figures.

In that sense, this segment will close again in 2024 with more sales volume than cars, marking an important difference. Motorcycles, beyond their different prices and models, are also an option in times of low purchasing power for those who cannot reach 0km in their car. There are several factors that end up tipping the balance in the decision, such as the considerable economic difference with cars, and the ease of accessing a motorcycle with easier credit. Likewise, urban mobility is gaining more and more strength in our country, with the motorcycle being a more than acceptable variant for traveling practically around the city.

According to the Association of Automotive Dealers of the Argentine Republic (ACARA), The best-selling motorcycle brands of October were Honda (8,665 units), Motomel (6,890 units), Gilera (5,218 units), Corven (4,474 units) and Zanella (4,330 units).

Meanwhile, the best-selling models were: Honda Wave (4,302 units), Motomel B110 (4,021 units), Gilera Smash (3,982 units), Corven Energy 110 (3,100 units) and Keller Kn110-8 (2,930 units).

More signs of exit from the recession: the motorcycle market grows at a sustained rate

Sales of used motorcycles rose 24% and confirms that the recessionary scenario is beginning to be left behind. This is a sector closely linked to the transport of small loads and deliveries.

According to the report of the Motorcycle Division of the Automotive Dealers Associations, October ended with a total of 48,235 units transferred, which shows a year-on-year increase in the activity level of 24%, since in the same month last year 38,808 had been registered.

In consecutive months, an increase of 9.5% is observed since last September 44,119 units had been registered.

In this way, the accumulated ten months of the year show a total of 397,706 transfers, 8% more than the 368,980 in the same period of 2023.

The analysis of the data reflects that the brand that ended up leading the comfortably used market was Honda, with 31% of the operations, almost tripling Yamaha with 12%, which far exceeds Motomel already Zanella with 9%, both tied for third position, with very few units difference.

In fourth position, with 7%, was Corven and Bajaj shares fifth place with Gileraboth with 5% of the operations, surpassing by a few units of differences Warriorwhich could re-enter the top five at any time.

As for the most patented model, Honda comfortably leads the first step with the historic Honda Wave 110 S, which accumulated 2,407 units, followed by the Gilera Smashwhich with 1,323 remains in second position.

In the third step, with 1,229, the Honda XR 150L and the novelty is that the Motomel B110with 1,102, came fourth, surpassing the Honda XR250 Tornado which, with 1,059 units, has also been growing and has entered the top five most transferred.
