The Government established that the long weekend holidays are non-working. Thus, in 2025 there will be 17 holidays of which four are non-working days.

The government of Javier Milei established through Decree 1027/2024 published this Thursday in the Official Gazette, three non-working days for tourism purposes by 2025. They are the same ones that make up the long weekends.

In said text, the Government decided that those defined as bridge holidays are not exactly holidays, but non-working days. This is defined two substantial differenceslinked to work and the salary received.

Thus, while national holidays are defined by the obligation that governs their Sunday rest rules, and in the event that the worker has no other choice but to do his job, that day you pay double.

How to decide which days are holidays and which are non-working days

The decree refers to Article 7 of Law 27,399which grants the Executive the power to set up to three non-working days per year for tourism purposes. Also, it is mentioned the article 6 of the same law, that regulates the transfer of national holidays that coincide with weekdays to optimize their economic impact.

In this sense, it is recalled that the article 99, paragraph 1 of the National Constitutiongrants the President the fability to dictate standards in the area of ​​its competence. The text also emphasizes that this decision is supported by the Ministries Law No. 22,520which gives the Head of the Cabinet of Ministers powers related to holidays and acts of a patriotic nature.

The Government hopes that the provision contribute significantly to the growth of domestic tourismencouraging Argentines to travel within the country and boosting regional economies. In previous years, similar measures proved effective in mobilize millions of people and generate income in sectors such as hotels, gastronomy and transportation.
