From today, the Vehicle Technical Verification (VTV) is more expensive in the City of Buenos Aires and in the province of Buenos Aires, with increases of 18% and 21%respectively. This increase directly impacts mandatory maintenance costs for private and commercial vehicles.
New VTV costs in the province of Buenos Aires
In Buenos Aires territory, the updated values for the VTV are the following:
- Light vehicles (up to 2,500 kg): $53,819.26 (previously $44,175.21)
- Motorcycles: $21,527.47
- Vehicles over 2,500 kg: $96,873.58
- Trailers and trailers up to 2,500 kg: $32,291.19
- Trailers and trailers over 2,500 kg: $48,436.79
Furthermore, a further increase was anticipated for the February 1, 2025at which time the rate for light vehicles will exceed $60,000marking a 100% increase in just six months.
However, some vehicles are exempt from paying the VTV, such as those used by firefighters, municipalities or people with disabilities.

Why did VTV increase?
The increase responds to an agreement between the Buenos Aires Ministry of Transportationthe union Smata and the business chamber Caveawhich establishes that the cost of the VTV is equivalent to the 7% of the basic salary of a category 1 operator. According to the joint agreement signed in August, this salary amounts to $906,600.
The commitment is to reach this proportion at 100% within a period of five months, with gradual adjustments.
Mandatory nature of the VTV and exemption periods
In the Province of Buenos Aires, all vehicles must undergo technical verification according to these deadlines:
- Motorcycles: Exempt during the first year, then annually.
- Private vehicles: Exempt for the first two years, then annually.
- 0 km: Light vehicles and motorcycles must carry out their first verification at the 24 months and 12 monthsrespectively, following the last digit of your patent.
In the City, the VTV is mandatory for vehicles with more than four years old or 60,000 kilometers drivenwhichever comes first.
Shifts and fines
The requirements to obtain an appointment include ID, driver’s license, green card, current insurance and proof of payment. The fines for not having the wafer can range from $339,000 and $1,330,000depending on the severity of the violation.
Who is exempt from VTV?
Certain groups have free access to VTV, including:
- Retirees with income of up to two minimum assets.
- People with disabilitieswhether they are owners of the vehicle or direct family members.
This increase, although significant, seeks to balance operating costs and ensure that vehicles in circulation meet the required safety conditions.
