The advance of Chinese brands continues: another automaker announced that it will set up a factory in Brazil

Last Monday, the president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva met with the executive vice president of BYD, Stella Liwithin the framework of the investment that this automaker is making in the neighboring country.

The executive stated after the meeting that the vehicle production plant in Brazil “will be the largest and most advanced” outside of China, where they have their headquarters and most of their manufacturing.

It is expected that, by the end of 2025, this factory will reach the production of 150,000 vehicles intended to supply mainly the South American markets, and by 2026 this figure should increase to 300,000.

The Brazilian government reported that this investment is projected to create 10,000 direct jobs by 2025 and 20,000 by the end of 2026.

The plant is located in the Camaçari Industrial Complex in the state of Bahia. And, until a couple of years ago, it belonged to the Ford automobile company, which stopped producing vehicles in that country. In addition to BYD, two other Chinese automotive companies are already producing in Brazil: Great Wall and Chery.

Chinese and Argentine automobile companies

In Argentina, at the moment, there are no confirmed industrial settlement plans, But there is a growth in interest from Chinese brands to enter the local market.

In recent months, Representatives of at least five Chinese brands (of which today do not sell in the local market) were visiting Argentina.

They came to learn about the economic changes that the president is promoting Javier Milei and know directly the market situation.

In traditional automotive companies based in the country – those associated with ADEFA – there is concern because, sooner rather than later, they will have to compete with their products. This concern is reasonable because there are more and more indications that Argentina is an attractive target for automotive companies in that country.

In relation to the advance of Chinese automakers, the president of Toyota ArgentinaGustavo Salinas, He pointed out that “that is the challenge for Argentina and the world for 2025. It is one of the great issues. We are seeing what is happening in the United States. Now with Trump even more so. In Europe, the barriers that are being placed on Chinese vehicles. And like water looks for where to drain and where to arrive, we saw this year in Brazil how those videos arrived with ships with thousands of Chinese vehicles. “Global competition with China is a reality.”

This expansion process took another step today: the Chinese automaker GAC Motors announced today in Brazil that it will install a plant in that country. It is a company allied with Toyota and Honda.

The company announced this news at its first official event in the neighboring country, where it also confirmed that it will launch seven different models for sale in that market in 2025, according to the specialized site Motor1.

During the event, GAC officials announced a investment of 20 million dollars for research and development together with three Brazilian universities. The company estimated that the construction of the factory and the establishment of its dealer network will require a total disbursement of 1,000 million dollars.
