In principle, the series will be within the same universe as the production starring Dominic Purcell and Wentworth Miller.

Hulu has ordered a pilot episode of the series’ planned reboot Prison Breakwhich was first reported in early November.

At the time, Hulu was reported to be in the early stages of developing a reboot, although things were not yet confirmed. Now, however, Hulu’s order for a pilot series suggests that the series’ development is moving in a positive direction.

According to Deadline, casting for the pilot episode has not yet begun. The Prison Break reboot is being directed by The Outlaws co-creator, Elgin Jameswho is working on the project with four executive producers from the original series, Dawn Olmstead, Marty Adelstein, Neal Moritz and Prison Break creator Paul Scheuring.

While details surrounding the reboot are being kept under wraps, it was reported in November that the new episodes will not follow the core cast members of the original series, played by Dominic Purcell and Wentworth Miller.

It’s unclear when the pilot for the reboot will air.

What Prison Break is about

In the original Prison Break series, Purcell and Miller played brothers Lincoln Burrows and Michael Scofield. Lincoln is sentenced to death for a crime he did not commit, while Michael devises an elaborate plan to try to get his brother out of prison and clear his name. The series also featured the participation of Amaury Nolasco, Sarah Wayne Callies, Paul Adelstein, Rockmond Dunbar, Inbar Lavi, Mark Feuerstein, Robert Knepper and Augustus Prew.

Prison Break lasted five seasons and one TV movie. In 2020, Purcell said a sixth season was on the way, although this was later rejected by Miller, who said he would not return for more seasons of the show: “I’m off PB. Officially. Not because of the static on social media (although that has focused the problem). I just don’t want to play straight characters. Their stories have already been told (and told).”
