Truckers: the joint venture failed and the union launched “direct action measures”

The National Federation of Truck Workersled by Hugo Moyanoannounced forceful measures on Thursday due to the Government’s refusal to validate the salary increase agreed with the business chambers.

As of today, we begin direct action measures in all branches of our collective agreement, warning that any consequence of these measures is the responsibility of the National Government.. We cannot allow truck drivers to be prevented from continuing to live with the dignity they deserve,” reads the statement issued by the union.

Along the same lines, the letter adds: “Considering that the business sector itself states that it has no impact on price formation,” this Federation states that The Ministry of Economy cannot be allowed to restrict the freedom of workers to negotiate their salaries with the chambers of the sector.“.

What was the agreement signed by Truckers?

As had been warned, the Government did not enable a quarterly salary increase of 8% (3% in December, 2.5% in January and 2.5% in February), arguing that this figure goes against the inflationary projections designed by the Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo.

The official’s directive was clear: do not approve joint agreements that exceed 1% per month in 2025. As it turned out, Caputo transmitted this instruction to the Secretary of Labor, Julio Corderoas part of a strategy to keep inflation under control.
