The president of COLFARMA highlighted that the process consists of electronic prescription by the doctor, whose prescription is stored in a cloud repository. Pharmacists access it using the patient’s document or membership number, validating it to proceed with the dispensing of the corresponding medications. “This system seeks to facilitate pharmacists’ access to prescriptions without the need for patients to present them from their mobile devices”he stated.
However, Gómez acknowledged that the system is still under development. “Work is being done on the technical and administrative protocols to optimize the methodology, including the interconnection of cloud repositories and prescription modules,” he indicated.

Alejandra Gómez, president of COLFARMA, analyzed the challenges of implementing electronic prescriptions in Argentina.
When asked about the alternatives available to users, especially older adults, while the system continues to be perfected, Gómez indicated that for the moment viewing the prescription from patients’ cell phones continues to be the predominant option.
Finally, he stressed that, although several prepaid companies already operate with electronic prescriptions, challenges still persist for pharmacies to efficiently access the corresponding repositories. “Adjustments in the prescription modules and access to multiple medications in the same prescription are some of the key objectives of this implementation, which also seeks to guarantee the traceability and flexibility of the system, allowing patients to turn to other pharmacies in case of missing”, held.
