Lots of fun for little money: Affordable sports cars from the 80s and 90s

Who doesn’t dream of the grandiose sports cars of their youth? The sporty, elegant cars have lost nothing of their fascination – and they are more affordable than ever.
The car world of the late 1980s and early 1990s was more colorful and turbulent than anyone could have ever imagined. VW Corrado, Porsche 944, Opel Calibra or Ford Capri – who doesn’t get excited about that? Anyone who wants to bring back the past or no longer just dream about their childless neighbor’s sports car can be happy. This winter you can get a lot of sportiness for relatively little money. Because the mid-range cars that were affordable at the time have not yet become stars today.
Sports car from the volume league
While the popular sports versions of the Audi Coupé, Mercedes E-Class or BMW 3 Series have often become real classics with a corresponding price, the VW Corrado, Opel Calibra and Ford Capri are still parked shady in the second row. And even when it comes to the Porsche logo, most people only look for the magic number combination 911. The 924 and 944 versions are still available quite cheaply.
But there is another way, more down-to-earth but no less sexy, namely in the volume league. Production in larger quantities significantly simplifies the supply of parts, which is so important in older age. This is good for a model like the BMW 3 Series Coupé from the E36 series because there were many identical parts to the sedan, convertible and touring.
