An expert jury made up of test managers and editors-in-chief of Europe’s largest maritime trade magazines awarded prizes for the best motorboats and sailing yachts at the “boot” trade fair in Düsseldorf. The presentation of the “European Powerboat of the Year” and “European Yacht of the Year” awards is not just about a first visual impression of the ships, but also about real tests. According to the jury chair, these include test trips at sea lasting several days. For this year’s award ceremony, the ships were examined both in the Kiel Fjord and in the Mediterranean.
But the testers complain that the number of new products has “almost halved” compared to the previous year. A “significant decline in sales figures” is to blame, according to the experts. But: “Even though there have never been fewer new releases for the jury to judge than this year, the nominated boats all delivered strong performances,” it says.
