Contrary to the Government, Mendoza ratified the local PASO

The president of the Radical Civic Union (UCR) from Mendoza, Andres Lombardiratified that, contrary to what the Nation wishes, the province will maintain the Simultaneous, Open and Compulsory Primaries (PASO) for local offices this year.

With the electoral calendar running and the Government’s project to suppress PASO ready to be discussed in extraordinary sessions in Congress, the districts are beginning to make decisions for the legislative elections.

In this regard, Lombardi recalled that “the province has its own PASO law and therefore the independence to maintain them, even when the Nation advances with the project to suspend them.”

“That is a decision made because we understand that they are a valuable instrument to improve the electoral offer,” commented the president of the Mendoza Chamber of Deputies.

On the other hand, Lombardi made reference to the current situation of radicalism at the national level and commented that the party “owes an internal debate that reflects the reality of the provinces and respects their autonomy in terms of alliances.”

“In Mendoza we are open, but the national government has installed the issue very quickly and there is still a long way to go. We must dedicate ourselves to governing,” he added.
