Russian automakers may stop the production of cars in Kazakhstan

Russian automakers that have invested in assembling their cars in Kazakhstan may stop production in the country. This was reported on February 3 by the Vedomosti newspaper, citing representatives of large domestic automakers.

It is noted that automakers are concerned about the intention of the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, to revise the rates of recycling fees for cars. The head of state gave such an order on January 11 at a meeting of the Majilis (parliament) of Kazakhstan.

Revision of salvage rates should take place during February 2022. In the event of the cancellation or a significant reduction in the scrap fee, automakers will face problems with fulfilling their obligations to localize components in the country and difficulties with the implementation of investment projects.

On January 25, it was reported that at the Kaluga plant PSMA Rus, which belongs to the Stellantis alliance, it is planned to start production of Fiat Scudo mid-size vans at the end of 2022.

The car was introduced in the fall of 2021. In the European market, the model is offered with diesel engines ranging from 102 to 177 hp. Gearboxes – mechanical or automatic from Aisin.
