For 10 years in Russia, the number of deaths on the roads has almost halved. This was reported on Friday, February 4, in the press center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs following a meeting to sum up the results of interdepartmental cooperation in the field of improving road safety for 2021.
As noted in the press center, the resolution of the UN General Assembly consolidated the goal of the new decade – to reduce by 2030 by 50% deaths and injuries due to traffic accidents worldwide.
“Having implemented the first 10-year plan (2011-2020), Russia has fulfilled its obligations and almost halved the number of road deaths (from 27,953 in 2011 to 15,788 in 2020),” the ministry said in a statement.
The department noted that the work to reduce mortality on the roads of Russia is based on the activities of the federal project “Road Safety” of the national project “Safe Quality Roads”.
On January 9, the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia reported that in January about 2 thousand accidents occurred in the country, in which more than 230 people died. At the same time, the Ministry of Emergency Situations managed to save over 700 people.
It is noted that in winter, traffic on the roads is often accompanied by snowfall and snowstorms. Tire grip also deteriorates due to ice on the roads, which can create a risk of sudden maneuvers and lead to an accident.
On December 24 last year, the Moscow traffic police department reported that in Moscow for 11 months of 2021, 404 accidents involving drunk drivers were registered, in which 53 people died and 525 people were injured.
In November, the traffic police said that the main causes of road accidents among novice drivers are the wrong choice of distance and the discrepancy between speed and specific traffic conditions. Also, the mistakes of novice drivers included non-observance of the order of passage, violation of the rules for passing a pedestrian crossing and violation of the rules of rebuilding.
