His old ship is 100 meters long, the new one puts one meter on it. WhatsApp founder Jan Koum should get a new yacht-but there are only a few changes.
The business magazine “” estimates the assets of WhatsApp founder Jan Koum at around $ 16 billion. He laid the foundation for his enormous wealth a little more than ten years ago by selling his messenger to Facebook. Since then, the self-made man has been missing as an investor. But Koum not only increases his fortune, but is also too happy to make up. He provides the latest proof of this with the alleged purchase of a new yacht that is strikingly similar to his current ship – even the name is identical. The fact that Koum is said to have ordered the ship reported, for example, “” citing insiders.
We are talking about the new “Moonrise” whose construction progress recently celebrated the Dutch shipyard Feadship. Even the manufacturer writes: “We see twice: the” Moonrise “leaves the dock”.
The shipyard describes the new “Moonrise”, previously known as “Project 1013”, as “refined further development of its predecessor”. As if the second “Moonrise” was a new iPhone that is replaced by a new model because it is too old.
The same yacht … again?
Just like the smartphones, the ships look confused. But the yacht has “numerous technological improvements and many design refinements that increase the beauty and functionality of yacht,” explains FEADSHIP on LinkedIn.
The specialist magazine “” writes that, for example, a new antenna technology is meant by which you can integrate into the ship structure and thereby make the look more elegant. The mast, according to the magazine, was also built a little differently and the outdoor areas were enlarged.
After all, much quieter
However, all of this can impossible the purchase of a new yacht worth $ 300 million. The drive technology may be more understandable. Because specially constructed propellers should reduce the underwater noises and noises in the interior of the ship. The anchor should also be built in such a way that vibrations and noise should be reduced by, for example, the chain.
This would make the new “Moonrise” noticeably quieter than the old ship – which can be noticeable during longer stays on board.
The shipyard writes that the ship now receives further equipment before going to the test drives at sea. Only then could the new “Moonrise” be delivered to its owner. In particular, it is not mentioned – so it is common in the world of the super rich.
What Jan Koum, if he is really the buyer, does with the old “Moonrise” remains to be seen. However, buying a new ship that almost resembles the old model looks plenty of strange. Although – with smartphones, Ottonormal earners do that too.
