In 2021, Russians bought 271,000 new cars manufactured outside the Russian Federation, which is 18% of the total Russian market. This was reported on February 8 by the analytical agency Avtostat.
Among the cars imported from abroad, Russians gave the greatest preference to Chinese cars in 2021 – 58.2 thousand units. This is 2.4 times more than in 2020. Japanese cars are in second place — 56.7 thousand (+10%). The third place is occupied by cars made in Germany (55 thousand units – 34%).
Thus, 82% of new cars (more than 1.2 million) bought in Russia are produced locally.
On February 3, it was reported that in 2021, 1.4 million cars were produced in Russia, which is 8.2% higher than in 2020.
Based on the results of 2021, the Hyundai plant in St. Petersburg remains the leader in terms of assembly of foreign cars, having produced more than 234,000 vehicles (+6.5%). 80,814 RAV4 crossovers and Camry business sedans rolled off the production line at Toyota’s St. Petersburg plant, up 20% year-on-year. Nissan has produced 45,040 cars at its plant in St. Petersburg, which is 17% more than in 2020.
