DS E-Tense Performance: Dream electric

As one of the few car manufacturers, Stellantis is sticking to the Formula E racing series with its noble niche brand DS. The DS E-Tense Performance sports car study is intended to provide an outlook on an electric luxury sedan that will celebrate its premiere in 2024.

While other brands gradually said goodbye, Stellantis remained true to the pale Formula E with its DS brand. And now advertises for the large series, because the DS E-Tense Performance should show where the electric journey for the Stellantis noble offshoot should go. The in-house racing department DS Performance developed and built the one-off that is intended to make the transfer from Formula E to series production a tangible experience. Electric motors on the front and rear axles deliver 600 kW / 815 hp under the usual boldly cut carbon body. In addition to the electric drive, the E-Tense Performance also shows the direction in which DS design will develop in the coming years. The drive consists of two electric motors with a total output of 600 kW (250 kW at the front and 350 kW at the rear), which corresponds to 815 hp and a torque of 8,000 Nm.

In 2025, the current combustion engines will be removed from the portfolio and all new models presented from 2024 will be powered purely electrically – with the electric luxury sedan based on the DS E-Tense Performance as a model. “Our goal is to incorporate the experience gained in Formula E and the know-how from our international titles into a project that shows the high-performance electric car of tomorrow,” explains Thomas Chevaucher, Director of DS Performance is a research project in which we analyze the behavior of the components and develop them with a view to future production.”

The two electrical modules installed in the DS E-Tense Performance come from the development of DS Performance for Formula E. Spectacular: from a standing start, it accelerates to 100 km/h in two seconds. Just as impressive: the recuperation performance of the prototype is a gigantic 600 kW. For safety reasons, the power sedan has a braking system with discs and brake pads; however, only the regeneration system is used to decelerate when driving. The battery pack, which is installed in a carbon fiber aluminum shell in the middle of the rear, has been adapted to the strong recuperation performance. Sharper than ever next to the electrical engineering on board: the design in the style of an Audi R8.
