Volkswagen announced an investment of US $ 580 million to produce a new pick up in the country

This is the renewal of Amarok for the Latin American market. The German brand will have a Chinese partner. It will stop manufacturing the SUV taos, which will continue to arrive imported from Mexico.

Within the framework of its 45th anniversary in Argentina, Volkswagen announced an investment of US $ 580 million destined to the production of a new medium pick-up that will happen to the current Amarok. This project will begin in 2027.

The new model will be for the regional market, since Global Amarok will occur in South Africa. Likewise, the readjustment of the General Pacheco plant implies the End of SUV taos productionwhich will continue to be offered anyway as an imported product from Mexico. The new project contemplates the participation of the Chinese Group Saic and between the end of Taos and the beginning of the new Amarok there will be a period in which the German firm will be forced to suspend in a rotating way apart from its staff.

The German brand manufactures Amarok in General Pacheco since 2010. Since then, more than 770,000 units occurred in the last 15 years. Thomas Schäfer, CEO of the Volkswagen brandHe stressed: “Volkswagen has a clear and ambitious plan for the future: regional growth and a strong local presence are fundamental pillars of our global strategy. The new Amarok will combine German engineering with local design, developed in South America for South America, adapting to the changing needs of our clients. With this investment, we reinforce Volkswagen’s position in the region.”

Both managers presented the investment in Casa Rosada before the Secretary of Finance, Pablo Quirno, and his peers of economic policy; José Luis Daza; and of industry and commerce, were Marzorati.

The investment will include technological improvements in the Pacheco facilities, “with advances in quality, innovation and environmental sustainability,” the brand said in a statement. He also added the text “existing associations for the production of Amarok in South Africa will remain in force, ensuring reliable supply to global markets, while the Latin American model will be specifically designed to meet the demands of the region.”
